A Bolt Cutter is a tool used for cutting chains, padlocks, bolts and wire mesh.

Recently I've come across some interesting information I thought I'd share.
There are different types of cutting blades for bolt cutters, including angle cut, center cut, shear cut, and clipper cut blades. Bolt cutters are available usually in 12", 14", 18", 24", 30", 36" and 42" length. The length is measured from the tip of the jaw to the end of the handle. We recently did some testing on every bolt cutter we could get our hands on and have finally picked the two manufacturer's that are by far the best for heavy duty high tensile cutting and general purpose lighter duty.
First We have our Chrome Molly Bolt Cutters. These are great for medium and light duty cutting. Jaws are heat treated drop forged high grade alloy chrome molybdenum tool steel.
